On 26 December, 2004, a 9.1 magnitude earthquake off the northern coast of Sumatra triggered a deadly tsunami that swept across the Indian Ocean, killing over 226,000 people and causing massive destruction along coastal areas of 14 countries.

The tsunami left Krisana Lertkulton’s hotel seriously damaged and she almost lost her daughter to the wave. After the disaster she became a volunteer with the Thai Red Cross.
